We all want to be healthy. We just don't always want to work at it. Sometimes we get lazy and let things slide, like our eating for example. And our skincare.....like, how many times have you bought a new skincare regime and used it for maybe a week, then it went into the forgotten zone of under your bathroom sink? Yep....been there, done that, got the T-shirt. Here are my Top 10 strategies that I have incorporated into my life to try not to be such a hot mess all the time.
1. Start your day with something positive, and ONLY for you and set a routine. Whether it is a cup of coffee in the dark, scrolling through Facebook, an uplifting shower, or a devotional or prayer. Something, ANYTHING that you can enjoy by yourself. It can be as quick or as long as you wish. I personally use this time for my coffee and to do a devotional and plan out my goals for the day. Kinda like a morning staff meeting with myself.... I am my own CEO. :)
2. You are what you eat. Simple. Eat crap.....feel like crap. But WHY does crap taste so good? Sucks, doesn't it? Yeah, I know.... But let me tell you what I have discovered. The more whole, fresh, foods you put into your body the MORE you will crave them. Let me tell you, roasted zucchini in my air fryer, just sprayed with olive oil and some sea or seasoned salt makes a side dish that will LITERALLY melt in your mouth. I am not even lying.
3. How MUCH you eat. Even though you are eating good, nutritious, healthy foods, you still need to monitor the amount in which you consume them. I like to keep track of my dietary intake by using a mobile app such as iTrackbites. Keeping track of my diet makes my goals even more attainable. I like iTrackbites because it is completely customizable and simple to use. And it is super affordable too. Only $35.99 for the entire year. You can check it out on my website, click the iTrackbites tab.
4. MOVE. That's it. You don't need a fancy exercise program. Yes...you can use one if it brings you joy, but you don't NEED one. Gardening, walking the dog, reorganizing your closet, dancing in front of the microwave while you're waiting on your lunch to heat up. JUST MOVE MORE. I like to listen to audiobooks while I walk outside, sometimes I'll walk around in the woods, or up and down my driveway. I also like doing short 10-minute dance workouts I can w
atch on my phone while I am cooking my breakfast, I am killing two birds with one stone. I like finding opportunities to move more and I often challenge myself to get more steps than I did the day before.
5. Supplementation. It is virtually impossible to get ALL the nutrients we need in one day simply by the food we eat. Depending on your health, nutritional needs, goals, gender, age, lifestyle........Everyone's nutritional needs are different. I recommend having a blood panel done, and a physical to assess if you have any special needs. I am vitamin d deficient so I add more to my regime. But I have a generally basic supplement routine. I take a multi, (I will be trying AVONS vitamins shortly), my hair/skin/nails formula, Vitamin D3, Fit Infinity, and my Goli ACV Gummies that are SO delicious you don't even know you're doing something so good for your body.
6. Self-care. It seems like a no brainer, but it can be hard for a lot of people. I am not talking of the basic self-care.....like brushing your teeth or showering. I am going a little deeper. I'm talking about the extra things. Like a fun mask or delicious bath bomb. But, self-care doesn't have to be all about pampering. Sometimes self-care is just saying no to somebody or chilling the couch with a bag of natural popcorn.
7. Find Joy and Choose Happiness. Face it. You choose your mood. You choose your attitude. If you are always complaining you will NEVER have room for happiness. Try to flip that switch and LOOK for joy in your life. Start making a list of all the joyful things you see OR can implement in your life. Write down EVERYTHING that you love. Try to pick ONE thing off that list to do every day. Use your good china, work on your quilt, make your meals look pretty before you eat them, take a yoga class, drink your water out of a wine glass, read a book, catch up with an old friend, try that new tea you've been wanting to try.....you get my drift.
8. Love Yourself. This, I think, is the hardest. But it is also the most beneficial. You HAVE to love yourself. You can not love anyone else until you love yourself. It sounds so cliche doesn't it, but it is so vital. Try this, write a love letter to yourself. It may feel a little awkward but try it out. Write to yourself and tell yourself WHY you love YOU and list all of your qualities that you think are awesome. Reread it every day.
9. Be Quiet. We all need some quiet. A moment to be chill and just BE. This can be in a warm tub, at night before you go to sleep, on your lunch break. Just take a few moments to stop, breathe, and just be STILL.
10. Reflect. Take time to reflect on your life, your month, your week, your day. Set goals, evaluate what is and isn't working. Make changes and make plans. Keep a gratitude journal and list three things you are grateful for each day.
I hope you have enjoyed reading my tips on living a glamorous and healthy life. It may seem like a lot but I promise if you just implement one tip a month, you will see a big difference in how you look and feel.
